WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING YOU ARE DEALING WITH RIGHT NOW?

Drag out the yoga mat.

Light the candles.

Turn on the temple sounds.

And come with me.

  • Is it an unfaithful partner/spouse you have to forgive?

  • Is it a backstabbing colleague you have to deal with?

  • Is it the parent/spouse/sibling/child/friend you have to bury?

  • Is it the promotion you didn’t get?

  • Is it gossip?

  • An ailing spouse?

  • Being a caregiver?

Or is it something much simpler yet terribly hard.

The day to day slogging through life.

For me?

It’s acceptance.

I’ve just turned seventy-five. A three-quarters of a century.

I have to accept that –

  • I can do nothing about past failures and mistakes. The time for second chances is way gone past.

  • I will never again study piano.

  • I will never master a foreign language.

  • My body can no longer do what I want it to do.

I’m aging.

The past is the past.

This moment is all I have right now. I must live in it. Make the most of it. It will never come back.

“I close my eyes in order to see.” (Gauguin.)

And settle into the moment.

Trying to accept.
