THE NUDGE

I guess the first nudge came from my English teacher in High School, one Miss Joan Urie. You know how we all have that ONE teacher that sets you on a path?

I’d written an essay on a long forgotten subject and there, in red, at the top left hand corner, her familiar scrawl, “Hitch your wagon to a star.”

Miss Urie – another story there.

Did my 16 year old self listen? Of course not.  I did a bit of this and a bit of that, (maybe I’ll write about all of those years at some time) but on and off, always kept on scribbling and scrawling.

Fast forward. Enter the World of FaceBook. And I’m sharing my HUGS stories. From across the pond came a nudge from Julie. “You should write a book. Now if I have to explain who Julie is, that would be another story.

For another time.

The final nudge came from Lisa Kay Fletcher. And you know how I know her.

I got all excited but then reality smacked me in the face and I realized just how much work this was going to be.

The doubts set in. “Oh ye faint of heart…..”  So I got on my direct hotline to The Man Upstairs.

Me: “Lord, do you have a moment?”

God: “Yes my child. Do you have a problem?”

Me: “Well, uh, well my friends want me to write a book.”

God: “So?”

Me: “Lord, this writing thing, I’ve tried it before and it didn’t work.”

God: “That great romance novel? I wasn’t with you.”

Me: “I know nothing about computers.”

God: “Then learn. That’s why I sent you Lisa Kay.”

Me: “I’m too old.”

God: “My servant Moses was 80 when I sent him to Pharaoh and Grandma Moses was in her late seventies when she started painting in earnest.”

And so it went until a very final “Do it for Me” came through.

So there I was with no knowledge, apprehensive didn’t begin to cover it, what had been fun was going to become work and to top it all, my mind was a tumble dryer, excited but overwhelmed, ideas flying in all directions.

Breathe baby, breathe.

And as if I hadn’t had enough heavenly pushing and shoving, I opened My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers the next morning and there it was – 2 Corinthians 6:1.

“We beg of you not to receive the Grace of God in vain.”

The Amplified Bible expands on this –“do not receive it to no purpose.”

And still I dithered.

Back to My Utmost for His Highest and The Good Book.

“Go and tell my brethren.” Matthew 28:10
