THAT SECRET INGREDIENT
One of my childhood highlights was the Annual Agricultural Town Fair.
Horses and cows and sheep and goats to be judged.
Knitting and sewing, embroidery and painting.
Cooking and canning and baking.
Ahhh – the BAKING.
Tannie Anna (can’t remember her real name, besides, she’s long ago gone to her rest from baking) always, but always got first prize. A nice gold and red rosette for something resembling a pound cake.
But it was so much more than a pound cake! It was special. It melted in your mouth, bringing to mind all your favorite flavors. A different experience for each.
Inevitably some brave soul, who hadn’t trudged this road before, would ask her for the recipe.
Which she would willingly, smilingly and with grace impart.
Clutching her “prize” the unsuspecting recipient would leave. With a backward triumphant glance at the other ladies.
The “Other Ladies,” having “been there, done that got the T-shirt,” would look at each other and smile. In sympathy.
Because, you see, Tannie Anna always left out a key and secret ingredient.
Your best effort would never be as good. Would never taste the same.
The secret and powerful ingredient.
And my mind goes to the Gospels. Those threads of truth that run throughout. (NKJV)
Show God’s kind of love to all people.
All merging into that one vital magic “kernel,”
“GOD’S WILL FOR YOUR LIFE.”
