It should’ve been a blissfully quiet Saturday morning in the lovely month of May. A “rural” marina called Wacca Wache in SC. Far away from the hustle and bustle of Charleston City Marina SC. Where, incidentally, they found a foot in a shoe on the dock the day we left.

I believe up until now no-one has come forward to claim the shoe. Or the foot inside.

Back to my “what should’ve been a blissfully quiet Saturday morning.

It wasn’t.

The marina had recently changed hands and was undergoing a face lift. It now boasted a great washroom (with clean spacious showers) and a nice low-price restaurant (think subs and salads). The wait staff was new and I loved the sign –

“Our staff is in training; if you are in a hurry please come back another day.”

It was the perfect stop for a two-night stay to re-group.

And I looked forward to my quiet morning. But as I said, a face lift was in progress and a small office at the end of the main dock was under construction.

On a Saturday….

Much hammering and drilling and sawing. Which started about 8.00 a.m.

Now, if I’d got up at 5.30 am, (my best time), I would’ve got my “quiet” time.

So why didn’t I?

I’d overslept after a restless night.

So why did I oversleep?

Because I kept on waking up, fitful sleep and un-named terrors.

So why did I have such a bad night with goblins and more chasing me?

  • Because I ate too much the previous night;

  • Because I ate too late the previous night;

  • Because I’d had two drinks the previous night. More than my limit of one watered down drink.

Age will do that to you Sad, I know.

But stilI. Why should people work and hammer and saw on a Saturday?

I whined and whined and whined. That is, until the Captain quietly pointed out that it was Friday, not Saturday.

Such is the boating life. At least I did know it was the “Lusty Month of May.”
