ONE DAY AT A TIME
Whenever I spend time with someone that’s going through a rough patch, my unfailing advice is –
One day at a time.
Or even better. Just get through the next hour. And then the next. And the next.
But I find I stumble over the same speed bump as I plan my day and further ahead, my week.
My heartbeat actually increases (yup, I checked.) Irritation waits in the wings, patiently; to join my other “issues” center stage. Then, on cue, they blow the whole danged thing out of the water.
And even being totally aware of what’s happening and knowing the tricks to tame the beast, and knowing NOT to make grandiose plans and lists to accomplish in a day,
Yet, still I do it. And by night time I’m an impatient irritable mess.
Do I think there’s a Superwoman inside of me clamoring to get out?
Do I think if she gets out she’s going to accomplish my list for the day?
Or am I just a foolish misguided human thinking I know better than my Heavenly Father who taught us –
GIVE US THIS DAY…
And so, as I include The Our Father in my morning prayers, it would serve me well to remember
GIVE US THIS DAY.
