It’s inevitable as one ages that thoughts of mortality surface.

Death isn’t something I fear. I figure it’s going to be quite jolly to meet up with those already there.

What I fear is what might precede death.

  • Prolonged infirmity.

  • Chronic pain.

  • Dependence on others.

And I know that I know that I cannot change what’s waiting. That I cannot add a day to my life by worrying.

Luke 12:25-26(NIV)

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

Even as I pray for the Grace of a Happy Death (how about falling asleep and not waking up?) I’m reminded of Jesus’ words to Peter.

John 21:18 (NIV)

18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”

And that’s okay as well. He will be with me all the way.
